This is Insane! The cheapest DDR2 4 gig kit on Newegg is 73$!

I was planning to up my memory to 8 gigs but this is just silly.

I don't know about you but I recall earlier this year being able to get a DDR2 kit for 25 bucks. (really!)

What made the prices go up almost 200%?

(here is the link to prove it) http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....20(2%20x%202GB)

FWIR, the memory market basically flooded itself so that manufacturers were selling at a loss just to get rid of the supply. I think they expected that there would be a ton of people upgrading to windows vista, but that never happened to the extent that they had been preparing for.

It's DDR1 all over again. I remember how those prices spiked when DDR2 became the standard. Now that DDR3 is here, the same thing was bound to happen to DDR2. It's the nature of the beast.

comparable ddr2 is still cheaper than ddr3 so it's still recommended (while the price still sucks also). DDR3 should be coming down in price because it's a lower nanometer. If they could sell DDR2 at those low prices, then they can sell ddr3 at those low prices
