i5 750 cpu
Asus P7P55D pro motherboard 2 x wd caviar black 1TB hard drive Lite-On iHAS324 x2 optical drive haf 922 case megahlem linksys WMP300N network adaptor g-skill ripjaws 2 x 2 GB sticks ram Samsung 2233SW monitor Saphire vapor x 1GB 4890 graphics Logitech mk700/mx550 keyboard/mouse Corsair TX750W psu I will be using this for video editing, gaming and all the basics and installing and playing arnd with mulitple os'. I would like this build to be versatile, upgradable, and a good station for learning new things. I live in Australia, Victoria. Retail prices of these things exceed 3.5K AUD. I am able to attain this products for roughly 2.1K AUD. Max is 2.1K. So if something needs to be upgraded or changed...it will have to be at the expense of something else being changed. BTW< anyone have any idea when nvidia 300 series are coming out...... Thanks guys for all your help, and especially for dontated time This post has been edited by Jshaz: Nov 9 2009, 03:50 AM |

First of all, Welcome to OCC!
That build looks OK to me. Have you heard of the Prolimatech Megahalem CPU Cooler? It's cheaper than the true (in NZ) and is better performing. There's also a new cooler out, the Mega Shadow (the Megahalem in black). Here's some temps done by my local PC store with an i7 920 D0 stepping: ![]() Thanks, PremiumGFX -------------------- |

BTW< anyone have any idea when nvidia 300 series are coming out...... From what I've heard, Q4 2009 is unlikely, so Q1 2010. Waiting for them myself -------------------- |

nice build...
but what about an hd 5870 or 5850? would definitely try and go for one of those rather than a 4890 on a new build at the moment. don't know if you can figure out a way to fit one into the budget or if you can even find one right now, but would say it would be worth it if you could... especially in the longer run. welcome to occ by the way This post has been edited by Maj0r Gamer: Oct 25 2009, 10:34 PM -------------------- |

Check the GTX260 too! What? they listed 4890 which is slightly better than the GTX260. Anyway if you can get a 5850 or 5870. The more power the better at that res. If you plan on crossfire you should definitely get a 5850 or 5870. If you don't plan on crossfire then you should downgrade the PSU and upgrade the graphics card. thanks for everyones input. yeh i looked at the ati 5000 series. currently cant afford at 5800 model yet. as for the cooler i need some advice. was checking up on the IFX-14-140 by thermlright and also the mega shadow. cpl questions..
1. will either of these two fit in the haf 922? 2. ill either of these two fit on the motherboard? 3. i prefer not to flaten out the bottom of my new $100 AUD HSF. is there so much performance difference between the two? 4. Will i get reasonable frame rates on COD MW2, assasins creed 2 using a at 4890 and a HD 1920x 1080 22' montior? 5. are these two hsf going to give me highest performance from air cooling? again guys, thanks for your time This post has been edited by Jshaz: Oct 26 2009, 12:37 AM |

What? they listed 4890 which is slightly better than the GTX260. Some of the OCed GTX260s outperform the 4890 so maybe he'd like to check them out.. also he may want to play PhysX games!! Mega Shadow performs similar to megahalems which is pretty much the best one around!! IFX 14 seems good too.. Both seem to have a very similar performance! And will fit into your case! (Should fit on your mobo too but I cannot be sure of that!) If you are looking to cut costs megahalems is good so is TRUE120.. (In US 4890 seems good for the games on 22" LCD (BTW what is the resolution?) They measured it at 61 cfm and it was pretty quiet. If you don't care about how loud the fan is then most 2000rpm fans would work, just find one with decent reviews. D0 stepping i7s are s-spec: SLBEJ otherwise I wouldn't worry about it much, I doubt any can't reach 4Ghz. This post has been edited by xchrissypoox: Oct 26 2009, 01:03 AM -------------------- ![]() |
